In March of 1990, Marlene's father was diagnosed with lung cancer.
In the final hours of his life, his wife and daughter, Marlene, sat
at his bedside, each holding his hand. A number of times throughout
his ordeal Marlene stood beside her father and placed her hand upon
his head and told him he would be alright. She was not necessarily
speaking of recovering. It was May 1, 1990 at 10:30 at night when
her father died.
Marlene recalls lying down on her bed later that night. She was
not sleeping. She was lying awake, thinking, when suddenly her
father stood before her. He was wearing one of his favorite flannel
shirts, a red plaid. He placed his hand on Marlene's forehead, the
same gesture that she had used to comfort him, but now he comforted
her. He told her that he was alright and that she was not to worry.
He spoke to her for a few minutes and then he was gone. She said
she then fell asleep and had a good sleep.
Marlene attends a Catholic church and was taught that there is
life after death. Since this incident with her father, Marlene no
longer has to believe by faith. She now knows without a doubt that
life after death exists.

"A Little Door, A Little Light is a very special book
and I loved it. It gave me goose bumps for a variety
of reasons, though on the day I read it here in
Oklahoma, it was 90 [degrees] F.... It is a must-read. It will
especially be of interest to those people who have
recently lost a loved one, but I think it is a book
for any age group, since death is a part of life."

"I recommend this book to everyone, regardless of background
or personal beliefs. Even if it doesn't alter your life, it will
at least force you to look towards death with an open mind."
